In my Reading Comprehension Development program, I sit beside students - sometimes literally, sometimes online - and show them that reading does not have to feel like a wall. I break texts into smaller pieces, ask questions in everyday language, and model how to highlight, annotate, and summarize step by step. Many of my youth come to me saying, "I read it, but I do not remember anything." Together, we practice slowing down, picturing the scene, and connecting it to their real lives. As their confidence grows, test passages feel less scary, and books start to feel more like doors than locked rooms.
